They have definitely gotten more expensive as they have gotten bigger as they will eat more.
Pigs need generally 5-10 pounds of food per day.
One 50-pound bag lasts our 2 pigs about 1 week with them weighing about 100 pounds.
One 50-pound bag of food costs about $20. You can also find pig feed from your local farmers generally at a lower price.
$20 a bag
1 Bag per week
Roughly $100 per month on pig feed.
We also give the pigs all of our scraps that are safe for them to consume & we will get reduced produce at our local markets when possible!
Pigs are ready for the freezer typically after 6 months.
6 months of feeding your hogs equal about $600
Add the cost of the pigs and we will have spent roughly $720 on our pigs!
When breeding pigs, they are pregnant for about 4 months.
